ABOUT APAU

Our Mission Statement:

APAU, an organization for persons of African descent, plans and implements activities and programs designed to increase awareness of Africa's unique and diverse cultural heritage within the Mount Holyoke and Five College community. APAU also serves as a support group that facilitates social activities to bring women of color together. APAU serves as a safe space for students of the African Diaspora and all who share, believe and support the philosophies, traditions and values of APAU.

Our Vision:

We seek to provide an atmosphere of community to ensure that the MHC experience is a positive one. It is imperative that we act as a cohesive unit in addressing problems that are common to the members of APAU and the groups they are associated with.

We continually celebrate and educate ourselves about the cultural and regional diversity of our members. We initiate and sustain communication with organizations that embrace similar perspectives and goals. In doing all this, we hope to help the MHC community gain an understanding of the backgrounds, problems, and relevant developments particular to people of the African Diaspora, both within and outside the MHC community.

Consequently, we augment programs on campus that are available and interest students from the African Diaspora. Lastly, we continually celebrate and affirm aspects of our identity that correspond to the African Diaspora.
